What is really going on

Hard hitting commentary on world events. Sometimes the truth can be scary, but people need to realize these things aren't going to go away. Plus, this is a blog to show how hip Pol Klarck is.

UNL Oppresses Minority Students

I don't really understand all this, stand up and fight talk going on in the DN as of lately. Sindu says that the best way to maintain your oppressive regime is to separate the masses so they can't fight as one. And she makes this connection to the university. A little over the top.

That's all I got to say with this because the piece is just ridiculous.

Piece wasn't that ridiculous, Rob. More than anything it was a primer on racism/hatred that some minority groups have for other minority groups. I thought it was mildly interesting.

She does make a connection to the University, but it is a comparative one to the University of Minnesota, which apparently has a more vibrant minority community and whatnot. If this is true, and I have no reason to believe why she is lying about it, I don't see anything wrong with pointing out the difference.

The headline is pretty bunk, but I'm guessing she didn't write it herself. The few paragraphs are pretty weak, because she points to the "oppressive majority" as the force behind this "divide and conquer" strategy, but never points to any real evidence of this sort of thing. The rest of her column focuses on how some minority groups are hateful of others simply because they choose to be.

I think if the focus of the piece was more that minority groups need to be more tolerant of one another it would've been more realized. As of now she references the oppressive majority, but has little to no basis to back up these claims. That isn't to say I don't think there is any basis... I'm sure there is some, but it is important to understand that there are other factors at play. And what she does in the rest of her piece is illustrate the other factors at play.

But I agree with you that her initial hypothesis was fairly over the top given the tenor of the rest of her piece.

also, Lee For Vendetta wrote a shittier version of this column last week. For the first few paragraphs of this column I thought she was just going to plagiarize Lee, then she switched it up made it a bit more interesting.

and just to add one more thing about it: the Lee column was meager because he was writing about this stuff from the persepctive of a white male. Which is kind of laughable. Lee has written extensively on GLBTQ issues but to my knowledge he has never identified his sexual orientation in the DN*, so he may or may not be a minority in that sense. Regardless of this it is still kind of silly when white males write columns on how the oppressive majority is dividing and conquering to keep minorities down.

*And if he is homosexual this is understandable... Jordan Niebur wrote columns about his homosexuality a few years ago and was bombarded with threats and such. Niebur was a good columnist IMO. He did a good job of shaking things up/pissing people off yet remaining consistent with his views/points. So he was good at opening up dialogue and thought on the topics he wrote about. I didn't always agree with his views but He was a skillful rhetorician. anywho...
